Fosse & Verdon Book No. 15 - My Writing Retreat

Writing this book (or any book!) takes a lot of time! It’s tough to stay focused when I have so many other jobs and responsibilities. I teach dance at Broadway Dance Center every Monday, I teach a lecture at a senior living center once a month, I work 6 days a week at the New York City Ballet as an usher, I run a company called Choreographics that I co-founded with Daniel Ulbricht, and I produce the Immortal Icons of Dance podcast. 

Add to that keeping up my dance training, groceries, cooking, and laundry–there’s hardly any time to sleep!

That’s a lot of balls to keep in the air while writing a massive book! To ease the load a bit, between July-September I went on a “writing retreat.” I left New York and went to stay in the suburbs of Michigan, away from most of my usual responsibilities. For 10 weeks, I was free to spend all my time diving into books, films, and interviews. 

Sometimes the best way to invest in your dreams is to allow yourself the TIME to see what is possible! Here’s a view from my office window all summer:
