The countdown to Liza at 80 at Carnegie Hall has begun! To mark this milestone evening, we will be celebrating this week by sharing archival photos, videos, and interviews on the collaborations between Liza Minnelli and Bob Fosse.

Liza wrote: “Fosse had a profound influence on me as a singer, dancer, and actress. Dance has always been my first passion— it gave me my own lane—and Cabaret offered me an opportunity to show the world what I could do. Fosse knew this and brought a new discipline to my moves. He pushed me to communicate more by doing less. Even though less was often harder. He used every inch of my body, including a painful curvature of my spine, in his choreography. One of my legs is longer than the other, a condition I've had since birth. Bobby turned that into an asset. I watched him intently as we began to rehearse, because every day was a learning experience. The same was true for my singing and acting.

“Fosse was a brilliant dancer who grew up performing in burlesque houses. He became one of Broadway's most innovative choreographers and directors, with a distinctive, edgy style. The world came to recognize 'Fosse moves' from his work on Sweet Charity and Damn Yankees. The tip of a bowler hat. White-gloved hands flipping up and down, back and forth. Black-clad jazz dancers in a tight line. He was an American original, a master craftsman when it came to integrating music, dance, and drama.”
