We caught up with Tiler today as she prepares "Other Dances" for the stage tonight.
LJ: Where did your journey with "Other Dances" begin?
TP: "I first learned this part when I was quite young and I remember it being a big deal because not many people get the opportunity to dance the role. I remember feeling scared and excited that I was seen as one of the dancers that could carry it on."
LJ: How have various partners changed your performance in this role?
TP: "I debuted in Other Dances with Gonzalo Garcia, and it was very much like he was my teacher. He was so patient with me and I felt taken care of. He helped bring out the more liquid, lyrical quality in me. Now dancing it with Roman, it's been really fun to bring him into the role. The energy is very high when we dance together and it makes the ballet feel new to me."
LJ: You've been coached by Mikhail Baryshnikov in this role before…are there any pieces of his wisdom that you take with your in performances?
TP: "I will always remember, he told me not to rush on this one part—it's a balancé—going up to the wing in my first solo and whenever I do it I always think of him in my ear. Every single time I think of Misha."
