“The chief novelty of the occasion was the first performance by Diana Adams of the central role in Balanchine Scotch Symphony. It was danced with that characteristic lyrical beauty of hers that makes technical virtuosity seem far less difficult and far more enchanting than it really is. There was, of course, no indication whatever that this was a first performance; it was poised and easy and full of the romantic mystery of Balanchine’s very lovely little ballet. André Eglevsky was nimble footed and altogether excellent in the chief male role.”
